MývatnÍ gær var RUV með frétt um veiðina í Mývatni. Þar segir m.a.: „Veiðimálastofnun og Náttúrurannsóknarstöðin við Mývatn hafa undanfarin ár fylgst vel með ástandi silungastofnsins í Mývatni. Stofninn hrundi árið 1997 og síðan þá hefur lítil veiði verið í vatninu. Í ár hefur vatnið gefið enn minna af sér, enda var sett veiðibann á bleikju í sumar til þess að styrkja stofninn.  Árleg úttekt á silungastofninum sýnir að bannið hefur komið að gagni því meira er af stærri fiski í vatninu, en þó er ekki farið að bera á neinni nýliðun í stofninum.“
Yesterday the Icelandic state TV described the current fishing situation in Myvatn. The Myvatn Research Station in conjunction with the Institute of Freshwater Fisheries has been monitoring the Arctic char and Brown trout populations in Myvatn. The Arctic charr fishery collapsed in 1997 and since then there has been little fishing. This year the Arctic charr has been protected from fishing. The annual check on the situation, that was just finished a couple of days ago, shows that the protection has resulted in bigger fish but still there is no sign of any recruitment.
